Papers of Albion Tourgée [manuscript], 1881-1891.

The collection contains 9 letters from Tourgée discussing his play "A Fool's Errand"; autograph collectors; the periodical "Our Continent" and an article on a Chinese exclusion bill; a petition to Congress regarding funds for education; his inclusion in the Clover Club Album; a recommendation to President Garfield for a presidential appointment; and the influence of his books "A Fool's Errand" and "Bricks Without Straw" on the election of 1880. The collection also contains an engraving of Tourgée by Emily Sartain; and a signed quotation from "A Fool's Errand." Correspondents include Martin B. Anderson, Henry B. Anthony, Chester A. Arthur, H. H. Boyesen, Robert S. Brainard, Edgar F. Gladwyn, and Sidney S. Toman.
